Daniel Zales is the friendly face behind our firm. Daniel’s journey embodies the spirit of entrepreneurship and community service, rooted right here in Sacramento, California.
With a knack for starting successful ventures, Daniel has helped launch to over 50 organizations, collectively raising over $1 billion. He has also helped launch multiple non-profit organizations. One, Open Program Education Network has given over 25,000 students, from over fifty schools, on four continents.
Daniel is also the principal and fund manager of Accrue Investments & Consulting LLC (founded in 2016). Accrue offers corporate financing services as well as business, finance, and strategy consulting to small businesses and entrepreneurs. Between 2016 and 2020, Zales managed a very small arbitrage investment fund through Accrue Investments which had an annualized ROI exceeding 40% and did not lose money on any investments. While running Accrue Investments, Zales studied business and tax law at UC Davis Law School.
Prior to founding Accrue Investments, Zales was a capital markets research associate for Fisher Investments, an investment advisor with ~$135B assets under management. At Fisher, he conducted qualitative and quantitative research focusing on global capital markets trends for portfolio managers and the Investment Policy Committee. His primary responsibility, when he left Fisher, was quantitative portfolio strategy development and testing – writing programs to make stock portfolio trading decisions. During his tenure at Fisher, Zales wrote over 200 research papers on portfolio strategy, security analysis, market research, and financial theory for institutional, private, and internal clients.
Zales joined Fisher’s Research Department after graduating with distinction from Rice University where he received a BA in political science and a Masters of Statistics focusing on financial statistics and quantifying risk. While at Rice, he did microgravity research with NASA.
He is originally from Sacramento, California and is a proud to have attended Mira Loma High School, Sacramento Country Day School, American River College, and California State University Sacramento. He has been a guest lecturer or speaker at Rice University, University of Southern California, McMurry University, American River College, University of California Davis, and Eubank Conference.
In his limited free time, he enjoys skiing, working on cars, making three dimensional art, fostering dogs, camping, traveling, volunteering, and playing kickball (five consecutive season Xoso champion).
